Animate the World at the Barbican

One of the highlights in my annual workshop calendar is Animate the World, the Barbican education people are v kind to us freelance animation workshop leaders. Despite predictions of a piping hot weekend I bet the workshops will be good and busy, Polly and I are making animations in a day with young people. We are using Karel Zeman's 1958 film Invention of Destruction as our inspiration, the special effects are extraordinary. It's about an evil megalomaniac who kidnaps an inventor and his assistant and forces them to build a machine that could destroy the world. It makes my heart race even reading that synopsis, so if you're not sitting on Londonfields playing your bloody bongos tomorrow night, you could go and see it at the Barbican?

Drawings of Tigers from the studio

I'm very happy and busy drawing tigers for a little film for a very talented singer/songwriter, it's a really nice project, which I hope I'll be able to show (both of) you in the summer.

George's marvellous potion

The potion is a bit like a hot dog, delicious if you don't look at the ingredients plus I bet they both have looro in. Please feel free to make and drink at your own risk, feedback on any effects welcomed.

L'idee by Bertold Bartosch

I've been thinking about this film and now it's going to be at the Barbican this weekend. It was interesting to me especially because my new film called Frombald will be made using a relief printing technique and this film is based on Frans Masareel's novel in pictures which is made using woodcut. I've bought a book which contains three of them, it's called The Sun, The Idea and Story without Words. Maybe see you there.
